Driving hybrid cars and limiting industrial emissions is great‚ but they are band–aid solutions if we don’t address the core problem: we have to consume less. This is the message of Buy Nothing Day

Join the movement to reduce consumerism and buy nothing.  The flood of cheap imported consumer goods (including furniture) is destroying the environment in more ways than one.  Before you go and buy whatever it is you want to buy, look at where it is made and consider the conditions under which it is manufactured and how it is transported in order to land at you local retailer for such a good price.  The chances are that most new products we buy are made over seas under less than adequate working conditions, creating unregulated industrial waste, using up some natural resources and being shipped across the ocean in the most polluting of vehicles to get to a mall near you.

We at Urban Woods believe it is your right to buy new furniture and other (less important) things but please be conscious of how it is made, by whom and at what cost to the global environment.  It might just be a refreshing idea to take the day off from buying more gifts and other stuff that we just don’t really need.
