zume bed dwell prefab house - Dwell Prefab Home Tours 2012The Dwell Prefab Home Tour on June 17 provided a self drive tour of several modern prefab houses in Los Angeles including the impressive “Back yard plug-in” house which showcased some amazing furniture like the reclaimed wine barrel oak cabinetry by Cliff Spencer and a one of a kind Zuma Bed made by Urban Woods from 100% locally sourced, reclaimed wood.
The Plug in house is a 750 sf addition to an existing 1940’s house, the addition simply plugs into the house with minimal alterations required to the existing structure. The family of four wanted to have additional bedrooms, an open kitchen and living space and a new laundry room and powder room all at the same level. To achieve these goals the Backyard Plug in houses the public space including a new open kitchen and living space, while the existing house was renovated to house all the private spaces including additional bedrooms, bathrooms, music room and laundry room. The Back Yard Plug-in Module is a hybrid prefabricated structure using Blue Sky Building Systems structural steel frame and insulated wall panels and the itHouse glazing system. The interior built in kitchen cabinets are custom fabricated off site by Cliff Spencer using reclaimed wine barrel oak.
Linda Taalman, AIA of Taalman Koch Architecture, is the award winning architect behind the project.zuma bed dwell 2012 - Dwell Prefab Home Tours 2012
