Here at Urban Woods we use Douglas fir wood for our furniture making. We use reclaimed wood, meaning we do not cut down any trees in order to create our products. However, the type of tree that we use is important as different trees have different quality. So, the question is, What is Douglas Fir?
Douglas fir is a type of evergreen tree found in North America, known for its towering height and majestic appearance. These trees can grow up to 300 feet tall, with needle-like leaves and distinctive cones. Douglas firs have a reddish-brown bark and are prized for their strong, straight wood used in construction, furniture, flooring, and many wood working projects. They are also popular as Christmas trees due to their pleasing aroma and symmetrical shape. Douglas fir is a versatile and valuable tree species, highly regarded for both its beauty and practical uses.
Douglas fir wood is highly prized and widely used in various applications due to its amazing qualities. Its straight grain and fine texture make it a favorite among woodworkers (like us!).
Some other uses for Douglas fir other than our beautiful furniture includes:

- Cabinetry: The wood’s attractive appearance and ease of finishing make it a popular choice for crafting cabinets, countertops, and other fine woodwork. Its reddish-brown hue adds warmth to interior spaces.
- Flooring: This wood is an excellent flooring material due to its hardness and resistance to wear and tear. Its rich color and straight grain create an elegant and timeless look in homes.
- Furniture: Craftsmen often use Douglas fir for crafting high-quality furniture pieces. It’s not only sturdy but also absorbs finishes well, allowing for various design possibilities.
